A Budget-Friendly Kitchen Refresh
How We Did a Budget-Friendly Kitchen Update to a 1970’s Kitchen
By Devonia DeBeck
Our client knew they would be selling their home soon, so they did not want to invest too much money in updating their home. However, their current space looked tired and in badly need of a refresh. They had a wallpaper backsplash that was peeling from the wall and the entire kitchen was painted in lime green.
They also had a boxy drop ceiling that housed the lighting in the prep area and they had a dated chandelier in the breakfast area. The plain white cabinets and floor were in great shape, but nestle in their dated surroundings, also read as dated and unappealing.
We decided to change the paint colour to a warm soft grey and add smokey glass subway tiles to replace the paper backsplash. We added potlights in the food prep area, a new modern chandelier over a round dining table and completed the dining look with an updated twist on classic dining chairs.
The transformation was stunning. The previously owned white cabinets, black counters and black appliances harmonized beautifully with the updates. Now the kitchen was a bright, modern, special space which my clients were delights to have coffee in.
